4 Tips to Staying Motivated in the Midst of Failure

Most successful people have failed miserably. That’s right. At one time or another they have flopped, fell short, missed the mark, struck out and goofed up royally. However, the difference between these people and the rest of the world is that when they failed, they made a choice to use the experience to better themselves…to become stronger.

Are you determined to reach your goal? Do you really believe you can achieve what you set out to accomplish? With determination and belief, you too can make the same choice to turn a failed situation into a winning one. How? By choosing to adapt a positive perspective and engage in edifying self-talk. Here are four opportunities to stay motivated in the midst of failure:

“The Only Direction is UP” or “It Can’t Get Any Worse”

Feel like you’ve hit rock bottom? Don’t beat up on yourself too badly. To experience disappointment, heartbreak, embarrassment and/or self-doubt is to be human. However, to wallow in this state for too long is downright destructive. Tell yourself that it doesn’t get much worse than this point of failure and let yourself know that the only place left to go is “upward.” Use the failure as motivation to start climbing back up. When you do this, you will see that instead of running from failure you will look it in the eye and overcome it.

“I Have a Chance to Do Better Next Time”

As long as you’re breathing, there’s always room for improvement. Choose to use your failure as motivation to do better the next time around. When you remember your goal and envision reaching it, you will be super-charged to find ways to develop yourself. For example, if you need to do better in school, make (and follow) a consistent study schedule. If you are intent on a promotion at work, take classes to increase your skill-set. No matter what the failed task consists of, you can use it to motivate yourself to get more done.

“Hmmm, I May Need to Change Direction”

Does it seem like you’ve come to a roadblock? Then the solution may just be detouring and moving toward your goal in a different way. When something does not work out as planned, you need to re-evaluate the route you are taking. So review the situation, re-group and get on a track “around” that roadblock. The track may be a different one, but it may also be a more successful one.

“This is Not the End of the Line”

Know this: everyone fails from time to time but failure is not the end of the line unless you allow it to be. You blundered, you tried, you failed and it hurts. Allow yourself time to grieve it but then let it go so that you can get back to the business of reaching your intended goal. Your goal IS your motivation. Remind yourself that the only positive option is to seek ways to turn the situation around. Then tell yourself that in the morning, you will begin again!

Video Games in Increasing Brain Capacity

Human learning evolved from barbaric growls to conventional schooling and now, to modern video games. History became the unvoiced witness throughout this evolution.

The principal medium of brain development is through visuals and audios. Modern teaching theories and techniques were formed from facts about senses and brain development, like using all applicable human senses to maximize learning and retention. From a certain book about human learning, it was said that learning curriculum incorporates play as one of its foundation. Thus, technology and video games might also play an essential part in brain development.

Brain areas related to words and letters, are obviously being developed through educational games. There are also games focused in numbers and riddles. Such games aim to improve arithmetic and logical thinking of the human brain.

While other game genre like action and role-playing seems to have little contributions, modern studies had also proven that they can also play a big part in brain development. Such games need simultaneous task execution, which helps improving concentration, cognition, and perception of players. Online games also enhance strategic thinking and informal scientific reasoning through discussion and online sharing of ideas. Some genre like tactical games improve multi-tasking skills, focus, and agility because it requires protecting game camps, avoiding enemies, and even participating in simulation of real-world activities like driving and aircraft handling.

Other areas of brain development caused by video games are in motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Games, especially in the action genre, require lots of hand and finger movement. Such movements can be achieved through proper hand-eye coordination. Eyes will transmit information to the brain, which will further process needed actions and coordinate with hands for proper execution. Playing video games can help in restoring motor skills and its rapid degradation because people tend to lose such skills as they grow older.

Aside from intellectual and similar development, video games are also utilized to help in other brain areas. Studies are now being conducted to form solid foundation on how games can be used to treat emotional disorders like ADHD. Studies are also being conducted to show that video games can help in minimizing male and female gap when it comes to spatial skills. Getting a video game like cheap stoked or used red faction would be prime examples to test these scenario’s.

Correct simulation and environment can cause the human brain to develop appropriately and to adapt in its present condition. This can be observed in a highly-skilled teen in different game categories. This case has been an interesting study because the teen was blind since birth and it shows neuroplasticity, or the capacity of the brain to create new associations between neural networks and rearrange itself to adjust with varying conditions. The teen started to play classic computer games and learned through frequent asking, keyboard memorization, and patience. His current game wizardry evolved from those early developments allowing him to easily defeat other gamers. Finding a game like cheap lord of the rings conquest would be ideal to test this theory.

Though video games can also impose disadvantages, these undesirable effects can be avoided through proper guidance and support.

6 Exercises For Abs To Help You Trim The Gut And Tone Your Stomach. Helpful Points to Know

Maintaining a flat and solid stomach is far from a walk in the park. It requires hard work on a consistent basis, but the results are well worth the effort. Fortunately, there are a number of different exercises for abs you can apply to your routine to tone your stomach. Here are six popular exercises you too can take advantage of today.

1. Bicycle

If you are looking to target the six pack area and oblique’s, this is by far the most effective method. You want to start by lying on the floor face up and then bringing your knees toward the chest. While doing this you will lift your shoulder blades off of the ground without pulling on your neck. In doing so, you want to straighten your left leg out while turning your upper body to the right. Then bring your left elbow towards the right knee. Continue to switch sides in a pedaling motion for 10-15 reps.

2. Exercise ball

Next on the list of exercises for abs involves you using an exercise ball. You will lie face up with the ball under your mid to lower back. Cross your arms over your chest while contracting your abs in order to lift your torso off of the ball. You want to then pull the bottom of your ribcage down to your hips while curling up.

3. Vertical leg crunch

The vertical leg crunch works well for the rectus abdominis and your oblique’s. You want to start by lying face up and extending your legs straight up with your knees crossed. While contracting your abs, lift your shoulder blades off of the floor. Make sure you keep your legs in a fixed position so that you can maintain a stable movement.

4. Reverse crunch

For the reverse crunch you will lie on the floor with your hands behind the head. Bring your knees toward your chest until they are at a 90 degree angle. Tighten your abs so that you can curl your hips off of the floor while reaching your legs up toward the ceiling. Then, lower your legs and repeat the process 10 to 15 times.

5. Abdominal rocker

The final exercise for abs is the abdominal rocker. For this method you will need to purchase the ab rocker. You will sit on the ab rocker and grab the bars on each side. Flex your abs while rocking forward to make sure your abs are doing the work rather than going off of momentum. You will then release and repeat 10 to 15 repetitions. Make sure you focus on your abs instead of just pushing with your arms.

If you have smoked for any length of time, you know that it is hard to resist the urge to have a cigarette when it sneaks up on you. Even worse, when you are thinking about quitting, you find that you are smoking even more than you used to smoke. Quitting is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, but it is also very hard to do. When you decide this is what you want to do, you have to find sources of stop smoking support. When it comes to the subject of amateur and professional body building, only the most naive person would not acknowledge the prevalence of anabolic steroids in the sport.

Needless to say, there is a great deal of performance enhancing drugs in competitive body building, but also there are a number of people who prescribe to natural body building which is essentially a drug free approach to the sport of body building. Make sure that you decide the workouts that compile with your weight gain/weight loss goals. Staying on Track with Your Fitness Program. Helpful Info to Know

Staying on track is one of the biggest challenges I have come to find while working with my personal training clients over the past 10 years. I have worked with everyone from busy executives, to house wives, to your every day 9-5 job clients.

There are a several techniques that I have had success with as far as keeping clients on track with their diet and exercise programs and thought I would share a few today.

First and foremost, logging your food intake. It is proven that when you are writing down what you eat and you know that someone will be looking I over, you are more likely to make smarter food choices.

Second, communication. Emails are key in regular communication with my clients. Not only does it show that you are thinking about your client but it shows that you are on top of them. A simple email asking if they did their workout today or how their diet is going can go a long way. If a trainer trains a client once a week and never touches base with them until the next week, they will likely sway.

Third, reminders. This is a key in wellness coaching as well as fitness training and lifestyle change. If you are in a fitness/wellness program and need to keep yourself on track, have a reminder of where you are and a reminder of where you want to be. I worked with a stay at home mom that wanted to get ready for beach season and wanted to wear a two piece bathing suit like she used to. How did I help her find a way to remind herself of where she wants go to? Simple, by putting up pictures. One went right on her refrigerator. This way each time she went to the fridge, she was instantly reminded of how she used to look, how she looks now and how she wants to look. An easy, but strong motivational tool.

Planning ahead is number four. It’s easy to know that smaller, more frequent balanced meals are key to fat loss and a healthier BMI. Balances within meals, ensuring plenty of color and variety, etc. are necessary, but how often do people actually cook and prepare ahead? It is important to have a list of what you need to get when going shipping. When you come home you should prepare each meal within a few days of eating it and just refrigerate it.

This way you don’t just “grab something.” If you have meals planned for Tuesday, on Sunday night, you know the calories, protein, fat and carbs in that meal. There is no guessing. Hand and hand with this type of meal planning would be using a calendar. Set your goals and target dates! Say by this day in this month, I want to be down 5 IBS of fat!

Fifth, do not grocery shop when hungry. I can’t tell you how many times clients in the past have shopped hungry and ended up buying something to snack on as they shopped or bought things that they regretted having in the house later!

Sixth, having regular fitness assessments. By regular I mean once a month. Any sooner the body comp changes may not be noticeable; any later the motivation behind assessment may start to dwindle.

Seventh, delegate or ask for help! Any idea how often clients have told me “I knew I should not have eaten that but I did” or “I know I should have worked out but I didn’t”. We need to delegate or ask for assistance from our friends and loved ones. If you know your weakness is with shopping, have your wife or someone else do it that you know will bring home the healthier foods or help keep you on track.

Also it is also helpful if your client joins some sort of like minded group. If they are just starting out they need motivation. It is easy when starting out to quit. If they become friendly with coworkers that like to walk every day at lunch, that’s great! They are like minded. That will help keep them on track.

Eighth, allow yourself certain times to let loose or cheat. This helps go a long way when it comes to motivation and staying power! Nobody changes their lifestyle easily and 100% right off the bat or overnight. It is much more practical to allow yourself to establish one goal at a time.

For instance someone that only eats once a day to take a few weeks and implement the frequent meals throughout the day concept. Once that concept is established, then move into the next one. Whether that be keeping hydrated, eating plenty of fiber, whatever it is, to be realistic about your goal setting. Setting too many goals too early on will end up frustrating the individual and they will likely quit.

If you did great for a week with diet and exercise, allow yourself to a sensible treat. The trick is to make sure it’s sensible, not over doing.

My last though, celebrate. Recognize when you are doing well with your program. Feel good about the progress. Remember, staying with your program alone is progress! Don’t worry early on about the scale or numbers.

Remember that lifestyle change, to be sustained is gradual.
