Morning Sickness Symptoms and How to Cope With Them

There are a lot of different morning sickness symptoms but you would be hard pressed to find one that you like. Nausea is the most common symptom and is usually matched with throwing up, and that makes it hard to keep food in your system. Sometimes this can be alleviated by making changes in your diet as you learn what you can tolerate. Aside from this, there are quite a few other possible morning sickness symptoms, some of which we’ll be looking at here.

Morning sickness symptoms can often come on because of extreme temperatures (or changes between them). It is a good idea to avoid locations that experience extreme hot or cold. You may want to take baths or showers with lukewarm rather than very hot water. Keep heat or air conditioning at reasonable levels at home, and try to stay away from places where they are turned up too high. Try to remember that sometimes this is out of your control–after all you can’t control the temperature 100% of the time! However, if you realize that temperature changes and extremes are aggravating your morning sickness symptoms you can take steps to stay in moderate rooms.

Another common symptom of morning sickness is muscle cramps, often in the back. Talk to your doctor if these become severe and they can discuss with you possible pain relievers you can take during your pregnancy.

When you first get up in the morning or after eating, be cautious and make sure not to make sudden moves. Even though you probably don’t have much energy at this time, it can also be helpful to get some light exercise, such as going for walks. While you have to take it easy during this time, complete inactivity is not good for the body and can make your symptoms worse. If you find that one of your symptoms of morning sickness is cramps, then rest will be the best way for you to treat it.

A rare but very disturbing morning sickness symptom is pica, or the desire to eat things that are not really food. Pregnancy commonly causes increased appetites as well as cravings and odd food aversions. There are some times, however, in which the woman craves items that are not food. This can cause cravings for things like dirt, pencils and even paper. There are various theories regarding this, including the idea that it’s the body’s attempt to make up for a nutritional deficiency. If you have this, talk to your doctor and resist the urge to eat strange items, as this could be dangerous, especially when you’re pregnant. Pica isn’t a wide spread morning sickness symptom but it happens to some women so don’t get scared if it happens to you–just get treatment for it as quickly as possible.

The symptoms of morning sickness can make you feel miserable, though they are worse for some women than others. For tolerable symptoms you can treat yoruself with rest and home remedies Be sure to visit with your doctor if the symptoms are more severe. Regardless of how common a symptom may be, each woman experiences morning sickness differently.
